There are many ways to volunteer at CANDOR. New opportunities are being added all of the time! Below you will find descriptions of opportunities and links to sign up.
COMMUNITY FOOD VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
PART & PARCEL COMMUNITY GARDEN SUPPORT (2nd Wednesdays 5:00 - 6:00)

Volunteers would engage in tasks such as planting, weeding, harvesting, trash pick up, mulching/amending soil, watering.
CANDOR FARM - GENERAL FARM SUPPORT (4th Saturdays, 3:00 - 5:00 Feb - May, Sept-Nov, 9:00 - 11:00 Jun - Aug)

Volunteers would engage in tasks such as planting, weeding, harvesting, mulching/amending soil, watering, digging. There may be occsional other larger projects, such as washing water storage bins, helping with light contruction projects, establishing new beds, etc. We STRONGLY suggest long sleeves, long pants, socks and closed toed shoes as there are some fire ants on site. Please also bring water and anything else to make yourself comfortable.
CANDOR FARM - PRE MARKET PREP (1st & 3rd Wednesdays, 10:00 - 12:00 Feb - May, Sept-Nov, 8:00 - 10:00 Jun - Aug)

Volunteers would engage in tasks such as harvesting, washing, bagging/bunching. Some of this may require changing locations (to Part & Parcel) after the harvesting, depending on where we are able to set up our wash and pack station. We STRONGLY suggest long sleeves, long pants, socks and closed toed shoes as there are some fire ants on site. Please also bring water and anything else to make yourself comfortable.
WEST END FREE MARKET (1st & 3rd Thursdays, various shifts between 12:00 and 5:00, Mar - Nov, plus on on December 11

There are multiple shifts available for volunteering at market. You can sign up for more than one shift if you want to stay for longer. Maket can be loud and move at a fast pace.
"Market set up" would include tasks such as: carrying boxes / pushing a cart full of boxes of food from outside to inside, moving boxes of food around to organize (ranging from 10-50 pounds), sorting for food quality, packing delivery boxes.
A "during market" slot would include restocking, supporting market members navigate market, breaking down boxes, helping market members carry items to their transportation.
The "delivery" slot would include helping pack delivery orders, and using your vehicle to deliver food boxes (no more than 10) to homes/locations within 3 miles of the market.
The "close market" slot would include the break down and clean up of the market space and getting leftover food to their secondary location - Part & Parcel / Community Fridge.
REMOTE / COMPUTER BASED OPPORTUNITIES
WEST END FREE MARKET DATA ENTRY (March - December)
Volunteers would receive images or hard copies of record sheets and digitize them by imputing data from the record sheet into a shared google document. To express interest in this opportunity, please email abijah.gattis@candornc.org

WEST END FREE MARKET - TRANSLATION/INTERPRETATION SUPPORT (March - December)
Volunteers would be either available to interpret for market members/market staff during market hours OR be available to translate docments for market during non-market times. To express interest in this opportunity, please email abijah.gattis@candornc.org

COMMUNITY FRIDGE - FOOD SOURCING SUPPORT (Year Round)
Volunteers would reach out to local and chain food businesses to inquire about dontations from them for the community fridge. Volunteers would be given a script to work from and access to a spreadsheet that shows previous contacts. Volunteers would be responsible for updating the spreadsheet.
